Jason Newsted

Jason Curtis Newsted (born March 4, 1963) is an American musician, best known for being the bassist of the heavy metal band Metallica from 1986 to 2001. He joined Metallica after the death of their previous bassist, Cliff Burton.

Newsted's musical career began in the early 1980s, playing in various bands, including Flotsam and Jetsam. He replaced Burton in Metallica and recorded several successful albums with the band, including "...And Justice for All", "Metallica" (The Black Album), and "Load."

During his time with Metallica, Newsted felt somewhat marginalized creatively and his contributions were often stifled, leading to internal tension. He also pursued side projects such as Echobrain which created some conflict within the band.

Newsted left Metallica in 2001, citing personal and private reasons. He later joined the Canadian thrash metal band Voivod in 2002 and remained with them until 2008. He also formed his own band, Newsted, in 2012, releasing the EP Metal and the album Heavy Metal Music. Due to medical reasons, he stepped away from the Newsted project.

Newsted has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Metallica. He has generally kept a low profile in recent years.
